The pet blogging community is simply fantastic. Just last week I told you about my hope to make Take Paws a showcase of people having fun traveling with their pets. And not just us – we wanted to see you, too! Well, looky here … today we have a guest post from John and his dog, Kya, with some of their favorite dog friendly adventures near their home in Sandpoint, Idaho. We’re planning on pointing the GoPetFriendly Winnebago toward Idaho later this year, so we appreciate the advance research, John and Kya. Maybe we’ll get to meet up while we’re in the area!

Hello, fellow GoPetFriendly readers!
My name is John and I’m an outdoor enthusiast and an even bigger dog enthusiast. I like dogs and the outdoors so much, in fact, that I built a whole business around them (though that’s a story for another time). Today, I’d like to tell you a little about my home—a heaven for outdoorsy people if there ever was one.
We (myself, my wife, and one fuzzy, sweet Vizsla mix named Kya) live in Sandpoint, Idaho—a cozy ski town on a lake just 50 miles south of the Canadian border. It’s known for its natural beauty and (of course) outdoor recreation, which makes sense, since it’s located on the shores of Idaho’s largest lake and surrounded by three major mountain ranges.
In fact, in 2011 Rand McNally named us America’s Most Beautiful Small Town.
So, it’s no mystery why so many people spend their vacations here. If I didn’t live here, I’d probably vacation here myself.
And just in case you happen to be planning a vacation to Sandpoint, I’d like to humbly offer up my (and Kya’s) favorite dog-friendly spots:
1. The Mickinnick Trail
I take Kya up to Mickinnick as much as three times a week when I’m in town (and when weather permits). The trail switchbacks over 3.5 miles through forest, field, and rocky outcroppings. And the best part is the views: panoramas of Lake Pend Orielle, the Cabinet Mountains, and Sandpoint itself.
